Brinkley Patriots reach semifinals in weekend tournament in Tyler, Texas

Playing a weekend tournament in Tyler, Texas, the Brinkley Patriots 18-under traveling baseball team went 3-1 to reach the semifinals of the tournament late Sunday afternoon.
Unfortunately, the Patriots fell short of the tournament title losing to the J3 Elite team 3-0 in the finals played Sunday night.
The two teams were facing each other for the second time and the J3 Elite team earned the sweep over Brinkley after winning the first meeting between the two teams played on Saturday.
Austin Teal, Colton Burt, and Ke'Von Medley each had one hit to lead Brinkley.
On Friday, the Brinkley Patriots defeated the Lone Star Cubs 4-0 in the first game of the tournament as two pitchers Dayton Grigsby and Jackson Wilson combined for the shutout.
Wilson worked the final inning and did not give up a hit or a run, inducing a groundout to finish off the game.
Brinkley scored all four runs in the first inning as Austin Teal, Grigsby, Wilson and Avean Smith all crossed home plate.
Returning to the diamond on Saturday, Brinkley defeated ETB 6-3 despite giving up three runs in the fourth inning.
Brinkley led 6-0 before ETB plated the three runs to trim the Patriot lead three runs.
Brinkley plated two runs in the first inning and added four runs in the second inning, finishing off the win with two final runs in the fifth inning.
Teal, Grigsby and Smith each scored two runs for the Patriots.
Dennis Holloway got the start for Brinkley lasting five innings and giving up three runs on three hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
The Patriots lost to J3 Elite 6-5 in the first meeting between the two teams in a game played Saturday afternoon.
J3 led 6-4 after three innings and held on despite a single run in the fourth inning by the Patriots.
Wilson went three innings on the mound for Brinkley, allowing two hits and six runs while striking out two. Colton Burt threw one inning in relief.
Teal went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Brinkley at the plate.
Regrouping on Sunday morning, the Patriots banged out six hits and scored nine runs to get past the Performance Baseball 16U South team 9-2.
Brinkley plated five runs in the first inning and held Performance to two runs.
Grigsby went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Brinkley in hits while Teal scored two runs for Brinkley and Wilson, Smith, Burt and Ke’Von Medley added single runs.
